Biografie

Mercè Paloma studied Art History at University of Barcelona.Her extensive theatre credits include many collaborations with Calixto Bieito, most recently Barbaric Comedies at the Edinburgh Festival; Life is a Dream in Barcelona and the Edinburgh Festival; La casa de Bernada Alba, El barberillo de Lavapiés and The Tempest in Madrid and Macbeth at the Salzburg Festival; and Pierrot Lunaire in Barcelona, and Peer Gynt in Norway; and Tirant lo blanc in Berlin. Opera credits include Così fan tutte and Fledermaus for Welch National Opera; Don Giovanni and Un ballo in maschera for English National Opera, and Royal Danish Opera; Tosca, Wozzeck, Un ballo in maschera and La cabeza del bautista for Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona, Manon for Frankfurt Opera, Carmen and, Il mondo della luna for Opera Zuid of Maastricht; Parsifal and La Fanciulla del west for Stuttgart Opera, Il Trovatore for Staatsoper of Hannover, Salomé for Opera of Bogotá, La italiana en Alger for Teatro Colón of Buenos Aires, Cavalleria/Pagliacci for ABAO Bilbao, and La Grande-Duchesse de Gérolstein for Theater Aachen. She has also designed extensively for Spanish and Catalan television as well the films A los que aman, El Mar, Stella cadente, and The Bookshop. Awards include Barcelona critics theatre Award 2007 and Gaudí film Award 2011 for Pa negre, and also for Stella Cadente (2014) Incerta glòria ( 2017), and for El fotógrafo de Mauthausen (2018).
